Nigel Granville is Newport Chess Club's Player of the Year. Nigel had an outstanding season winning twenty of the thirty-one games he played for the club and drawing five others.

Newport Players Win Div 2 Performance Trophies

Mathew Gregory and Nigel Granville have won the performance trophies for the Second division. Mathew won the Bill Chamberlain Trophy with double his expected score. Nigel won the Colin Gilbert Trophy for with the highest percentage with 86.36%.
Checkmate Exhibition

An exhibition of historic and modern chess sets is being held at the Newport Museum and Art Gallery between the 20th of March and the 10th of June. The Museum is open 9:30am to 5:00pm Monday to Thursday, 9:30am to 4:30pm on a Friday and 9:30am to 4:00pm on a Saturday.
