WCU Knockout Cup - U1800

First Round

Newport were drawn away against a much stronger Bridgend Bunnies side in the first round. Tony Brown had a good draw in a closed position on board two, and Mark Summers won with white on board four. Despite being under pressure for much of the game, Gordon Cadden was able capitalise on a mistake by his opponent and win on top board to win the match for Newport.

Second Round

Newport lost away to Malpas Apprentices, and are now in the U1800 Plate.

U1800 Plate - preliminary round

Newport lost away to Bridgend Nosferatu in the U1800 Plate. All four players had good games, despite the lower three boards being out-graded by 250 Elo or more. However, only Gordon and Simon gained any points, but not enough to win.
